I asked a team member to perform a task.

The next day, he messaged me, “OK Mark, it’s done!”

I clicked the link, to see he had simply copy / pasted a ChatGPT response.

There was 0 thought, it was riddled with mistakes, and filled with emojis.

I was… upset…

Why do we need you at this organization, if all you do is copy / paste ChatGPT?

What is the value you bring?

A few days earlier, I was in a meeting with a sales team at an organization.

My side (marketing) was sending hundreds of leads to the sales team.

The sales team wasn’t closing any sales, but we saw they weren’t executing inputs (calls, personal emails, DMs, follow ups)

Me and the sales leader asked them to contact the leads and get appointments scheduled.

Yesterday, I got a message from one of the team members, “Mark, I set up everyone in an email sequence. What should I do now?”

My response?

“Why do I need you? I already have leads in email drip campaigns. Why do I need you if all you do is throw people into an email sequence?”

Guys, real talk…

AI and automation is EXTREMELY POWERFUL. It changes everything.

But there’s a laziness trap.

Most people using AI lie to themselves.

They say “I’m working smart! Not hard!”

In actuality, they’re just working lazy.

Here’s the question. “Does AI and automation drive better results”

I don’t just want a task completed, I want the result from the task.

That’s where you come in. That’s your value. You are the brain that drives the result and automation and AI is a tool to help you achieve the result.

DO use AI to complete tasks.

DON’T forget how important results are.

IBM cutting thousands of jobs this quarter

IBM confirmed that it will remove a single digit percentage of its 270,000 global employees before the end of the year. That translates to around 2,700 to 11,000 people.

The company says the goal is to strengthen its AI and cloud businesses, which have already grown by more than 7 percent this year.

Analysts say the layoffs are the result of automation in areas such as finance, HR, and customer support, where AI can now complete tasks in seconds.

Watch it here.

The Update:

The World Economic Forum estimates that 44 percent of all workers’ skills will change by 2027.

Men in their forties and fifties are the most at risk because their experience often centers on outdated systems.

Microsoft hiring fewer but expecting more through AI

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that hiring will continue, but with higher expectations per employee. Internal data shows that staff who use Microsoft Copilot finish work nearly 30 percent faster and make fewer mistakes.

The company has reduced headcount in certain teams while investing heavily in AI products and developer tools. The message from leadership is simple: do more with what exists, powered by AI.

Senators Propose AI Jobs Bill

43M Americans on SNAP

Senators (D) Mark Warner and (R) Josh Hawley introduced the AI Job Impacts Clarity Act that would force major employers to report quarterly data on how many positions are removed or restructured because of AI.

Experts predict that millions of roles could soon be exposed in sectors such as retail, logistics, and financial services.

The stark message here is Republicans and Democrats CAN agree on something, and that is the importance of American jobs.

The Update:

When that data becomes public, every man will know where he stands.

Some will panic.

Others will study the numbers, follow the openings, and move early.

Information is power, but only for those who act on it.

The average employee spends 11 hours each week in meetings.

Over 70 percent of those meetings are rated as unproductive.

Godfather of AI warns of massive job losses

Geoffrey Hinton delivers his Nobel Prize lecture in Stockholm on Dec. 8, 2024

Geoffrey Hinton, one of the pioneers of artificial intelligence, warned that millions of jobs could vanish within the next ten years as systems begin outperforming people in complex reasoning.

A 2025 McKinsey report supports his warning, showing that 12 million Americans will need to change occupations by 2030.

The report adds that 9 out of 10 companies now use AI in some form, but only 17 percent of workers have been retrained for it.

The Update:

The man who helped create this technology is warning that most people are not ready.

The future will not wait.

The ones who ignore this will one day wonder when the work disappeared.
