What's Ahead
AI news is like drinking from a firehose.
Many companies are trimming workforce in the name of “efficiency”.
aka: We’re going to try AI instead of human.
Some of it will work, some won’t.
One thing is clear to me.
AI will be a necessity in the workplace, similar to how computers are required.
The biggest news of the week is Chat GPT 5. It’s a huge release with a lot of nuance.
I’m going hard on the upgrade right now, and will give full report tomorrow.
Have an awesome Friday, and congrats on embracing the change!
You’re family is counting on you!

Tesla Fires Dojo AI Team

Bloomberg reports Tesla is disbanding its Dojo supercomputer group, with leader Peter Bannon exiting and roughly twenty staff heading to a new startup. Remaining employees are being reassigned to computing and data center work as Tesla leans more on external chip partners. The move underscores how hard custom AI stacks are to scale and how fast staffing priorities can change when strategies shift.
The Update: Expect pivots. Keep your resume project based and outcome focused, not title focused. Maintain optionality by networking outside your org and documenting results that travel with you.
Atlassian Cuts 150 For AI

Atlassian laid off about one hundred fifty employees, largely in customer support, after a prerecorded announcement. ETCIO and other outlets framed it as part of an AI integration strategy, while another trade outlet said the company attributed the change to improved self service and embedded AI that lowered ticket volume. Either way, the move shows how support functions are being redesigned around automation rather than pure headcount growth.
The Update: Do a fast audit of your week. Shift time toward customer outcomes, field work and problem solving that AI cannot easily replicate. Keep notes on measurable wins so you stay on the keep list when teams resize.

July Job Cuts Surge 140%

Challenger Gray said U S employers announced 62,075 cuts in July, up 29% from June and up one hundred forty percent from a year earlier. The firm listed technological updates including AI and automation alongside tariffs and budgets among reasons for cuts. The print points to ongoing churn in back office and tech adjacent roles even as hiring persists elsewhere.
The Update: Tighten the basics. Keep three months of expenses liquid, refresh your resume this weekend, and schedule one conversation with a former manager. Small moves now reduce panic if your team is resized.

AI Layoffs Exceed 10,000

Fortune reports more than 10,000 U S jobs have been cut so far this year explicitly due to AI, based on Challenger data. The impact is heaviest in entry level and support work, while demand and pay rise for roles that use AI to produce more value. The reporting also flags a growing trend of companies citing automation and model upgrades in their layoff notes as they redesign workflows.
The Update: Make yourself hard to replace. Map your weekly tasks, identify the repetitive ten percent, and redesign it with AI so your time shifts toward revenue, safety or client trust.
Microsoft Cuts 40 In Washington

Economic Times, citing Seattle Times filings, reports Microsoft cut 40 roles in Washington, bringing 2025 state reductions to 3,160 while the company pours capital into AI. Even winners in the AI race keep rebalancing teams as spending shifts to model development, data infrastructure, and go-to-market priorities.
The Update: Protect your income by building optionality. Keep a living doc of outcomes you delivered, refresh two references, and line up one near-term interview even if you are not moving yet. Options reduce stress and improve leverage.
